Ray Returns to U S to Await Trial in King Slaying

Terrific Midnight Madness Booms Bennington Stores

Crowds decked Main Street for the annual summer sales promotion as Cinderella shoppers flooded downtown. Merchants report terrific sales with many staying open past midnight to accommodate late arrivals, while cleanup crews later swept debris and restored order. Vermon t Negro minister home shot at in early hours

In Irasburg Vermont three shotgun blasts were fired at the home of Rev David Johnson his wife and four children who had moved there from California to escape violence. A passing red and white car was seen and shell cases were found. Police noted possible exchange of fire from the house.

Webb Still At Large After Jail Escape

Cleo Webb a 24 year old Shaftsbury resident remains at large as Vermont State Police and Bennington County sheriff search for him after his AWOL departure from the county jail. Webb was jailed since July 8 on multiple charges and allegedly escaped by pushing out a window bar. An alarm was issued across Vermont and neighboring states with unconfirmed sightings reported near Bennington around 3 am yesterday. Sheriff Maloney said authorities had no new leads as of this morning.

Conservationists Oppose Hudson River Expressway
