Khrushchev Names Mikoyan President of Soviet Union
Anastas I. Mikoyan was named to succeed Leonid Brezhnev as president of the Soviet Union. Khrushchev proposed the move at a joint session of the Supreme Soviet and the Russian parliament, with unanimous approval. Mikoyan, 68, will keep a seat on the Presidium while Brezhnev steps down to focus on party duties. U S Sends More Troops To Viet Nam
