Vermont Veterans' Home expansion faces funding gap
Vermont officials said 528 205 pledged by the Veterans Administration covers only a portion of a planned 4 million dollar expansion for the Vermont Veterans' Home. Lawrence Powers and Gen Edward Giles noted federal aid could cover up to 2.6 million, with potential state funds of 14 million under consideration. The plan adds 40 beds by replacing the three story wooden barracks, improving safety and care for about 200 beds. The home, not part of the VA, charges seven dollars per day per bed and serves veterans from Vermont, including World War I and II and possibly Vietnam era entrants.
