South Vietnam marks a cease fire on day two as fighting declines though officials warn flare ups may return. Saigon reports most highways reopened. total killed reaches 2,058 with one U.S. casualty. North Vietnamese and Viet Cong delegates begin joint talks amid visa form dispute.
Hanoi says North Vietnamese Foreign Ministry protested U.S. and Saigon violations of the two day ceasefire in South Vietnam. The broadcast claimed Saigon forces continued military actions after the cease-fire and condemned the actions by the U.S. and Saigon governments. Pentagon and allied strikes in Cambodia and Laos were reported, with Cambodians and Laotians requesting raids on targets. The reports also noted ongoing fighting and displaced positions as regional talks proceed.
Prime Minister Olafur Johannesson urged world leaders to provide prefabricated houses and funds for Icelandic families left homeless by the Helgafjell eruption.
