Columbus veteran Mary Ellen Keil recalls how 1074 women in the Women Airforce Service Pilots flew 60 million miles in noncombat roles from 1942 to 1984. They towed targets ferried aircraft and photographed formations while seeking military status. Thirty seven died in training or on duty. The WASP program ended with the advent of the atomic era.
