Shaftsbury to review 11.8 million school district value dispute
Shaftsbury town officials meet with state Tax Department representatives to resolve a large gap between the department's 1970 fair market value of 22.77 million and the listers’ 11.02 million for the town school district. The discrepancy affects state aid under the Miller formula, and past equalization studies show aid fluctuations from 76,275 in 1968-69 to 131,192 in 1969-70 before dropping to 57,863 in 1970-71. The meeting precedes a Montpelier hearing next month on an equalization appeal filed after a 1971 revision.
