Eban says Soviets outmaneuvered U.S. in Mideast talks
Israeli Foreign Minister Abba Eban argues the United States was outmaneuvered by the Soviet Union in recent Big Four discussions on the Middle East. He urges a fresh direct Arab Israel path with UN mediator Gunnar V. Jarring, seeks no conditions beyond the mediator’s mandate, and notes Israeli gains and Mediterranean control as central to any peace. He cautions erosion of U.S. positions, not ties, and flags Nasser as a major peace obstacle while leaving 1967 war gains open to negotiation with firm red lines on final boundaries.

Nixon Seeks Higher Social Security Tax Ceiling
Washington sources say President Nixon will ask Congress to raise the taxable wage base from 7800 to 9000 dollars starting January 1 1971. The change would place the first 9000 dollars of wages under Social Security tax for workers and employers. The move could add a couple of hundred million dollars in federal revenues the first year and raise the maximum tax to 468 dollars. Only about one in five workers earn above 7800 dollars.

Food for Biafrans Sold On Cash Basis In Owerri
Thousands of Ibo refugees in Owerri begged for food and money as relief supplies were scarce with trucks and vehicles limited. Local officials said more trucks were en route from Lagos, while much aid went to buyers who paid cash. Food trickled into the former Biafran capital as federal forces closed in ten days earlier. Refugees hold Biafran money now worthless amid the cash-only sale of rations. Anita Arnold, a stripper known as Teeny Weeny, collapsed on stage in Wolverhampton as an ambulance crew cited an overly tight Gstring.
