Parents Rally to Save Burr and Burton Music Program
Manchester residents, over 30 parents and students, gathered at Congregational Church to urge retention of Burr and Burton's 32 year old music program amid budget cuts. Trustees will decide later this month after hearing concerns on costs, impact on after school music, and potential shift to extracurricular status with part time teachers.

Energy and bottle bills threaten New Hampshire outlook
Executive Councilor Bernard Streeter warned that energy, transportation and other economic problems threaten New Hampshire’s status as a national bright spot. He urged a decade long plan addressing alternative energy, transport, and venture capital gaps while cautioning a broad tax could dampen the state’s favorable climate for business. Lawmakers debated bottle bill proposals, with Rep. John Chandler advocating a five cent deposit on malt beverage and soft drink containers and a ban on nonreturnable six packs, citing reduced litter and consumer convenience.

HFCS budget impact uncertain says Hoosick Falls official
Supt. Philip Leonard states he has not yet seen how Gov Carey’s proposed education budget would affect HFCS state aid. The plan cuts regular aid by 150 million while adding 170 million to offset the loss, and would repeal a safe harbors clause limiting year-to-year aid. Leonard waits for a state education department print-out before comment.
