Allies falter in drive to recapture Highway 4
PHNOM PENH (UPI) Army officials report the Allied effort to reclaim Highway 4 is lagging behind expectations. Premier Lon Nol plans to visit Saigon for talks on Cambodia’s crisis while a new 6,000 man South Vietnamese operation targets a Communist buildup in the Fish Hook area northwest of Saigon. U.S. military sources cite slower progress as the reason for deploying helicopter gunships. U.S. spokesmen say helicopters have not ferried troops into or from the combat zone.
