Engagements announced in several area towns

In Hoosick Falls and surrounding towns, multiple engagements were announced. Gloria Jean Paligo, daughter of Mr and Mrs Walter Paligo, will wed Garry Donald Haff. both are 1969 graduates with local employment. Eve Christine Burns and Bruce Baker plan a summer wedding. Beth Anne Waterman and Richard Ciard target a September ceremony. Judith Marie Berry and Michael Putnam have a fall wedding planned.

Vermont League backs state environmental controls and open space plans

The Vermont League of Women Voters announced a broad environmental platform at a Burlington board meeting. It calls for state regulation of long lived pesticides with phased reduction, a permanent Environmental Commission, state control of large developments with local input, acquisition of development rights, and a land tax relief plan shared across the state. The league also supports zoning, preservation of natural areas for recreation and agriculture, and funding for open space. President Mrs. Walter Stockmayer urged citizens to back resource conservation for present and future generations.

Dies in Flames in Newark Car Fire

58 year old Anthony Attanaiso died when his car became stuck on ice and spun for about half an hour. An overheated tire exploded, igniting the gas tank and engulfing the vehicle. Witnesses report the fatal blaze occurred after the tire exploded.

Music at UVM from Marlboro and London artists

The Lane Chamber Arts Series at the University of Vermont features Marlboro Festival talent from Vermont and artists from London. It opens January 22 with Music From Marlboro, then showcases Beveridge Webster February 27, Vinie Burrows March 11, and the Barrow Poets April 15. Reserved seats and general admissions are available through the Lane office.

Dorset Couple Plans Summer Wedding for Patricia Lee

Miss Patricia Lee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James W. Lee II of Dorset, plans to marry John P. McCormack, son of Mr. and Mrs. George R. McCormack of Vincennes, Ind. Both graduates of Indiana University in 1967, they each joined the Peace Corps and taught in Micronesia. The couple’s families include prominent New York public relations and education backgrounds.
