Problems Facing Congress-5 Social Security Boost in Sight

Isolation of growth hormone boosts bone formation in dogs

Two orthopedic researchers from Harvard and Creighton announced at a joint Orthopedic Research Society and American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons meeting that a growth hormone caused a striking rise in new bone formation in adult dogs. They noted no immediate side effects and speculated it could help prevent osteoporosis but emphasized the work is experimental and not yet for humans.

Time Reports Cabinet Turns Down Pay Cut

Time magazine reported that George Romney proposed a pay cut for Nixon and top aides but the idea was rejected at a Cabinet meeting. David O McKay Dies at 96 Leader of Mormon Church

David O McKay, president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints since 1951, died at 6 a.m. in Salt Lake City at age 96. His death followed heart and kidney failures after months of illness. Emma, his wife of 69 years, and seven children were at his bedside. Messages of condolence from Nixon and Johnson accompanied tributes to his leadership and faith. The LDS Council of Twelve planned his funeral for Thursday at the Salt Lake Tabernacle and to select a new president, with Joseph Fielding Smith the likely successor.
