State Personnel Board backs merit pay for state workers
The Vermont State Personnel Board endorsed a merit and incentive pay system for state employees. The plan, based on performance, would guarantee at least 10 percent raises with possible 15 percent in some cases, retroactive to Jan 1 if approved by the legislature. The board will forward the report to Gov. Hoff for public release after reviews, while seeking secrecy until agency heads and the Vermont State Employees Association can examine it. Administration officials estimate a $6 to $8 million cost over the next two years.
