Montpelier House Republicans plan a caucus early next week to decide on their own plan for spending Vermonts 11.35 million surplus. House Speaker Richard W. Mallary R Fairlee held a state gy meeting in his office Friday after the Legislature adjourned. Attending were Rep. Emory
Hamburg based Der Stern defends unabridged publication of William Manchester's Death of a President. Henry Nannen cites humane limits and memory of John F Kennedy. The meeting with William Vanden Heuvel in Hamburg lasted over two hours.
President Johnson reportedly sent a confidential message to Soviet leaders urging agreement to suspend further antiballistic missile deployment. Ambassador Thompson will deliver the message and meet Gromyko, with a formal meeting planned with Podgorny. The aim is to avert an arms race, save billions, and gain a suspensive accord.

UPI reports former Vermont legislator Frederick J. Fayette, a Burlington lawyer, was ordered to pay a $300 fine for influence peddling. Judge Ernest W.
