Rainy and mild through today with a high in the 30s and rain ending tonight. Low 30s, cloudy Saturday with warmer temperatures and more rain by evening. Yesterday’s high 31 and low 23. 7 am reading 38. Sunset 4:30, sunrise 7:28. Scorpius visible low in the eastern sky around 6:30 am.
A morning blaze on North Street tore through a three story building at Gage and North, threatening total ruin before firefighters gained control. An elderly tenant, Mrs Agnes Hirsch, was rescued by Officer Donald Greenslet and hospitalized for smoke inhalation in good condition at Putnam Memorial Hospital. Officials believed all other residents escaped, though Louis Remington initially could not be located but was later found.
Saigon reports a large air campaign in Phuoc Tuy Province against about 2000 Communist guerrillas.
