Many young Americans seek Christianity as a life style while rejecting church as an institution. They form small informal groups focused on service with minimal overhead, resembling early house churches. Most still keep ties to institutional churches, yet criticize church self interest and lenient social actions. The movement emphasizes Christianity as life in community and dedication to serving others.
