Survey Finds Racetrack Influence Not Objectionable
Green Mountain Park's influence in southern Bennington county was found not objectionable by a Legislative Council subcommittee after its study of the track's finances. A Pownal meeting Aug 4 heard local views. Rep. H James Wallace and Sen. Allen B Angney conducted personal surveys. The panel proposed cutting the state's take by about 300,000 to raise purses, hoping to draw better horses and bigger crowds. The report warned that ending or curtailing racing would hurt many local people and businesses.
