Legendary Readsboro Resident Dies at 85
William S. Pike, 85, famed one armed woodsman and longtime Readsboro recluse, died Tuesday at Putnam Memorial Hospital Bennington after a December fall. A legendary storyteller, he hosted tall tales from his remote cabin near Heart Wellville, remembered for a fiery epitaph and yarns of Hell, a cherry tree buck, and a dog that ran on two legs. Pike, born March 25 1881 in Hoosick Falls, lived over four decades in seclusion, guiding generations of hunters and visitors with his wit. Page 10 continues.
