VLCT deletes portion of its Municipal Policy
The Vermont League of Cities and Towns voted on Friday December 28 to remove a section from its Municipal Policy that would have let selectmen or chief officials appoint administrative officers like town clerks and treasurers. Executive Director Robert B. Stewart said the change reflects the group’s aim to back a strong legislative program aligned with local officials’ views and noted no bill currently reflects the deleted clause. The removed text cited town meeting or charter vote to allow such appointments to avoid issues like those in Essex.
