A Bennington man, Elijah Bump, 62, was in critical condition at Albany Medical Center with burns over 25 percent of his body after a fire swept a North Branch Street residence. Four other residents were treated and released for smoke inhalation at Putnam Memorial Hospital. Firefighters battled the blaze for two hours, saving the two story frame house. The cause is not yet known.
