Vermont 1973: Crises, Policies, and the Drive for Planning
A retrospective on Vermont in 1973 outlines Act 250 origins, land use planning, and debates over development, education, and youth freedoms. It highlights the bottle deposit law, a bootleg soda scandal tied to a festival, health subsidies for dental care, and tax relief limits. The piece notes energy, tourism, and development challenges, the governor's agenda, and a public vow to pursue cautious, long term planning despite political tensions.
