Interest conflict charged in F111 contract awards
Senate investigators closed an eight year review of the TFX program charging Roswell Gilpatric with a flagrant conflict of interest in awarding the contract to General Dynamics. The report accuses McNamara and other top Pentagon officials of deliberate attempts to mislead Congress about mistakes. The TFX faced wing failures, 15 crashes, and heavy cost overruns with 183 operational planes. the Navy canceled the carrier version and the Air Force limited use after crashes.
