Ultimatum issued to whey plant designer to fix plant in four weeks

WATERBURY UP I The man who designed Vermonts controversial whey processing plant has been ordered to get the plant working properly within four weeks or the job will be given to someone else. The lean in place system he designed has blocked operating at capacity, potentially setting the stage for a legal fight over responsibility. The authority also voted to hire a Burlington law firm, R Allan Paul Frank and Collins, to represent state interests in the 10 million project. New chairman Kreizel seeks an audit, independent consultants, and a possible redesign of plant systems as the state plans a future private cheesemaker takeover.
