Readsboroites Hang On for Searsburg Mountain Road Transfer
Readsboro selectmen completed legal steps to transfer Searsburg Mountain Road to the state highway system awaiting Searsburg action. The five mile link crosses rugged terrain, costs Readsboro and Searsburg $2,000 to $4,000 annually, and is prone to icing and drifting snow. Searsburg must finish hearings and landowner damages before transfer. Local residents favor the road for reducing travel time to Bennington, though many still avoid it.
