Wild backfield to star in Sugar Bowl clash
Syracuse faces LSU in New Orleans on New Year’s Day with a grinding backfield led by Floyd Little and Jim Nance. Walley Mahle adds passing and rushing versatility as coach Ben Schwartzwalder weighs more air in a potential plan to offset LSU’s defense. Little and Nance combine for 1,779 of Syracuse’s 2,510 rushing yards, the top two-man total in Orange history, as Mahle shifts between quarterback and backfield roles and Rich King provides aerial depth.
