Congress settles on abortion impasse with new language

After a five month halt, Congress agreed to abortion language that is anti abortion in tone but more liberal than current law. It requires two doctors for health related funded abortions and expands Medicaid coverage for rape and incest or serious health cases, while leaving obstacles for poor women. Senator Magnuson denounced the compromise as unsatisfactory though the measure moves forward.

Corrections head weighs job corps center at Weeks School

Vermont state officials study converting the Weeks School in Vergennes, the juvenile detention facility, into a federal jobs corps center serving 300 youths from Maine Vermont and New Hampshire. A satellite campus at Windham College Putney would house 50 participants. The center could employ about 125 and use up to 1.7 million dollars annually. timing targets September.

Wholesale price index climbs 0.7 percent in November
