Regional conference warns Northeast faces urban decay risks
At the University of Massachusetts conference regional leaders urged time and funding to revitalize New England cities. Rep. Michael Harrington warned the bell tolls for the Northeast industrial sector while Ephron Catlin outlined a $40 million government and $150 million private funding plan to redevelop the Columbia Point housing project in Dorchester. Stamford’s $425 million turnaround story was cited as a model, noting 17 years of work and an eight year remaining horizon amid federal commitment gaps.
