New Haven Railroad seeks approval to drop Boston New York passenger service
The New Haven Railroad asked the Interstate Commerce Commission to abandon all passenger trains between Boston and New York citing $133.4 million in passenger losses since 1954 and $10.5 million last year. It argues public funds subsidize nonessential passenger service while freight income remains absent and urges a long term state plan for permanent service.
