Ontario expands crime victim aid with retroactive law
Canada’s new Ontario legislation expands crime victim aid to about 15,000 people retroactive to April 1, 1968, with payments for medical expenses up to ten thousand dollars and wages loss up to 500 dollars a month. The act covers victims not just those assisting police, with similar moves in Newfoundland, Saskatchewan and Alberta. Dr. Linden notes many may be unaware of the law, but it aims to improve police relations and public cooperation in law enforcement.
