Wires To Be Moved For Vernon Nuke Shroud Transit
Vermont highway officials met with Bennington and utility leaders to plan late September transport of the Vernon atomic plant shroud. The 16 by 16 by 24 foot assembly weighing 76 000 pounds requires wires be raised or cut and lights lifted. A three truck convoy will depart Troy New York pass through Bennington on routes 7 9 and 142. The shroud and its components include a 60 foot long main piece and large head and core parts all packaged in wood to deter sightseers. The load, escorted by state and local police, will be out by 4 00 a m and through Bennington by 7 00 a m.
