Denver weighs class sizes with weighted pupil plan
Denver adopts a weighted pupil plan to balance class sizes by assigning points to students based on instruction needs. Normal 1.0, gifted 1.5, bilingual 1.5, learning disabled 2.0, hyperactive 2.5. A 25-student target yields loads by summing these weights. The system links to contracts with the Denver Classroom Teachers Association and mirrors mainstreaming goals amid federal education rights for handicapped children.
