Largest meteorite crater said found at South Pole
Indiana scientist Dr. John Weihaupt reports evidence of a colossal impact crater beneath a mile of Antarctic ice. He estimates a meteorite 214 to 3% miles across struck Earth 600 000 to 700 000 years ago, creating a crater half a mile deep and 150 miles wide, far larger than any known terrestrial crater.

PTA Plan Expands Parent Roles In Education
PTA president Carol Kimmel outlines a broad plan for parental involvement in the 1976-77 school year. Parents would join collective bargaining, oppose violent TV shows, attend school board meetings, and press for compulsory parenting education to strengthen families. Funding remains a PTA priority amid funding squeezes and referenda hurdles. The plan links parenting education with fewer birth defects and improved child outcomes, while urging active parent input in education funding and policy.

Nuclear safety study criticized by MIT professor
MIT professor Dr. Joel Yellin criticizes the Rasmussen Reactor Safety Study for not assessing accident probabilities and long term health effects. He argues the report underestimates risks and overlooks cancer deaths and genetic defects, while noting uncertainties in methods. He warns against implying reactors are currently unsafe or likely to fail.
