Manchester officials conducted a second round of interviews Wednesday for the Manchester Elementary School principalship, with positions also open for a school dietician and a Grades 5-6 English teacher. One candidate backed out for family reasons. final decisions are expected after Saturday night interviews, as 11 applicants remain.
The Hoosick Falls branch of the Rensselaer County Health Dept at 145 Main St will host an immunization clinic on August 22 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Infants from three months and older children may begin polio, whooping cough, diphtheria, tetanus, smallpox and measles vaccines. boosters available for those already in the series. Families without a family doctor may use this service.
Congratulations go to the Pownal Center Fire Department for winning the float division prize at the Bennington Battle Day parade held Sunday. The department, youngest of the three local units, has grown through classes and upgraded facilities, with volunteers showing notable effort in building the winning float.

University of Vermont English Department chair Dr Samuel Bogorad announced 10 Vermont high school graduates will receive advanced placement in English for fall entry. Four Burr and Burton Seminary graduates Patricia Adams Mary Benson Anne Kollender and Susan Miller join the cohort.
Manchester Richard Harwood 18 son of Dr and Mrs Clifford B Harwood returned Monday from a four week motorcycle ride across the United States aboard a Honda 450 logging 11000 miles. He toured Los Angeles and San Francisco Calif and visited his brother Clifford in Tarboro North Carolina before returning. Heather Sue Wilcox infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Bruce Wilcox of Niantic Conn was baptized Sunday at the First Congregational Church. Navy Ensign Rodman J Patton USN son of Mr and Mrs Henry H Patton is a crew member aboard the destroyer USS Hollister of the Seventh Fleet stationed at Yokosuka Japan.
Four candidates from Brunswick and Hoosick Granges received first and second degrees at a recent meeting. Master David Cornell conferred the first degree and Master Mrs. Carleton Philpott the second. Delegates from Brunswick included past deputies Mr and Mrs Leonard Black of Bennington and Mrs Almon Hewitt who chairs the Community Progress Committee. They reported state master assistance for finishing rural numbering project. Refreshments were served by Mr and Mrs Earl Durkee and committee. Next meeting will be a covered dish supper with chairs Mr and Mrs N Clifford. Third and fourth degrees will be conferred at the regular business meeting following.
The Women's Auxiliary of White Creek Fire Co. plans a food sale at Moses vegetable stand in Eagle Bridge Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Home baked goods will be offered. Celia Niles and Betty Ann Baldwin attend the Averill Park 4-H camp this week. The John Ogert family vacationed in Old Orchard Maine. Mrs Stephen Hailstone and son Matthew of Vancouver BC visit her parents the James McCarts and attended Brenda Niles and Richards White wedding in Florence Massachusetts last Saturday. Mr and Mrs Charles Niles Anita Celia and Raymond attended the Niles Shaunessey wedding in Florence MA Saturday. Anita Niles visited relatives James Black in Chatham NY last week. Mrs Robert Standish and Miss Eleanor Fellacos of Fairport spent several days with the Niles family.
