Begin Maintains Refusal to Pressure on PLO Talks
Prime Minister Menahem Begin said in five hours of talks with Cyrus Vance no pressure was placed on Israel to accept PLO involvement in Middle East peace efforts. Begin, upbeat after the session with Vance, Dayan, and aides, said the U.S. had no plan to change UN 242 and outlined planned parallel talks in New York with Dayan and Arab foreign ministers in September. He accused the PLO of Nazi-like aims and said Israel would not engage with the organization despite reports of moderation. Vance said talks covered a wide range of subjects and were productive.

Mother Jones magazine charges pre-1977 Ford Pintos carried a rear collision fuel tank flaw that could explode, causing over 500 deaths. The piece blames Ford for a $1 plastic fix used on 1977 models, cites internal tests, and notes no recall plans while NHSTA tests found only one of 40 Pintos failed a safety standard.
