Two fatal weekend crashes left three people dead in New York. In Hoosick area an outboard tractor wheels detach from a tractor trailer and fatally strike a motorcycle rider, John S. Wright and his wife Mary M. Wright, both from Ilion. A separate crash on Route 22 in Berlin claims Victor N. Lecce's life when his van hits a chartered bus returning from Fox Hollow Festival. thirteen bus passengers were treated and released.

Major fire devastates Swanton business block
A large blaze in downtown Swanton gutted a VFW Hall hardware store plumbing firm and a used furniture shop injuring a fireman and leaving four families homeless. Discovered just after midnight by a policeman the fire was fought by local and St. Albans firefighters for about six hours with one firefighter hospitalized for smoke inhalation.
