Hopkins trustees surprised by Lenox campus plan
Lenox Massachusetts plans for a second Mark Hopkins College campus at Blantyre Castle surprised trustees. The Lenox campus was among 13 western Massachusetts colleges to receive HEW grants of 3855 dollars for library materials. Property ownership disputes emerged as James G Donahue and wife claimed the Blantyre site belongs to his brother in law Charles Martin of Illinois, with legal ownership contingent on a private contract. Donahue, president of Mark Hopkins College, said a Massachusetts resident must own the property for legal operation and that the brother in law may take over Blantyre as early as October.
