More tourists enter Vermont but spend less in summer

Vermont reports higher inbound tourist traffic through Guilford and Highgate Springs this summer, yet overall spending declines. Registrations at community information booths lag, May expenditures drop seven percent from 1971, and occupancy at lodgings weak. Despite higher traffic on six routes and 17 percent rise at nine attractions, dollars spent fail to match the increase. Officials anticipate a late July to August improvement.
