Wholesale food prices rose sharply in July with the index up 0.4 percent. Farm product prices jumped 3.2 percent the largest monthly gain in 17 years, lifting overall wholesale prices 4.5 percent higher than a year ago. Unemployment held at 5.5 percent.

The Bennington County Choral Society groups rehearsals starting Aug 7 at Saint Joseph College auditorium Bennington with fall plans to perform Monteverdi Magnificat and Brahms Requiem in November. ABC saves Cavett show from doom
In New York ABC announced Dick Cavett will appear every fourth week in 1973 alternating with Jack Paar and other programs. His 11:30 pm to 1 am slot remains five nights weekly until year end, then Cavett and Paar rotate one week out of four with dramas and variety shows filling the other weeks. Martin Starger said cancellation would have followed if ratings did not improve by July 28. Cavett won an Emmy this year but trails Carson and a CBS late night movie. ABC officials note ratings have inched up recently.
