Butterfield Responds To Union School Teaching Claim
Bennington teacher Thomas Butterfield states he submitted, with other teachers, an application for a Mt. Anthony Union High School position last fall. School officials say no record of the application exists, and confusion over processing may have caused the loss of his file in a Bennington district hiring mix up. Butterfield later accepted an elementary position in Hartford after discussion with Superintendent Kelley.

Snelling Defends 3 Per Cent Sales Tax Plan
In Montpelier Republican candidate Richard Snelling defended a limited 3 percent sales tax based on a 1957 Tax Department study and Maine’s system. He argued Hayes used outdated figures and claimed the tax would generate about 15 million dollars in fiscal year 1965, with rising yields over time, while noting the tax would exclude several staples and be used to boost state aid to education and services.
