North Village Loses Prominent Citizen

Hall Park McCullough, 94, longtime North Bennington resident and descendant of Vermont governors, died at his home. Born in 1872 in San Francisco, he lived most of his life at Hall Farm and valued Vermont heritage, while his lineage includes Hiland Hall and Trenor W. Hall.

U S May Enter Neutral Zone Opened By Rusk Remarks

Secretary of State Dean Rusk said the United States has no policy desire to enter the DMZ between North and South Vietnam but may take measures to protect troops. He cited four B52 raids on suspected targets since Saturday and supported ICC access to halt use of the zone. Rusk denied a Haiphong shipping attack by U S planes, noting bombs hit the target area. He warned of deteriorating Soviet American relations over Vietnam.

Chicago Hoodlums Steal Guns

Hoodlums broke windows in a suburban department store and stole 24 rifles and shotguns during a violent spree in Harvey. A policeman, Fred Hess, was shot by a sniper and hospitalized in good condition after helping disperse about 30 youths.
