Mayfest concert features Alan Carter's Vermont orchestra
Vermont's Alan Carter built a state orchestra starting with 20 players from Burlington and other towns. The group rehearsed despite missing instruments, earning strong applause at a Rutland concert in 1936. They perform in Middlebury Saturday as part of Mayfest with a youth show at 2 PM and a main concert at 8:15 PM, Mt. Anthony Union High School auditorium. Bennington native Stephen Manes will be guest soloist at both concerts.
