Boston Protestors Camp Out Over Urban Renewal
Several dozen participants including blacks whites and Puerto Ricans camped in a private parking lot on Dartmouth Street near Columbus Avenue in the South End protesting urban renewal plans. They erected tents and wooden shacks and blocked the lot’s last entrance with railroad ties and furniture while police directed traffic. CAUSE organized the effort with participation from diverse residents. City officials described the protest as peaceful and tied to relocation policies and priority to low income housing.
