Vermont debates federal grant for organized crime task force
Gov. Thomas P. Salmon probes a $242000 LEAA grant to form an organized crime task force in Vermont. Attorney General M Jerome Diamond leads the proposal, backed by the Governor's Commission, but Salmon warns of bureaucracy and timing during hard economic times. State officials note no current underworld activity yet and await LEAA and Emergency Board approvals. Separately the Governor’s Commission urges 240 hours of basic training for all law enforcement, endorsing continued residential training and a central council to set standards, while resisting some oversight concerns.
