Scotten Becomes First SVSU Teacher With EdD Honor
Gregory T. Scotten, Mt. Anthony Union High School social studies coordinator, earned the doctor of education degree from the State University of New York at Albany. The ten year graduate journey began at Arizona State University in 1967 after his Air Force service. He completed coursework, taught curriculum, interned administratively, and defended a dissertation on Hopkins life and experience curriculum. The work questions open concept learning and cites past curriculum design foundations. Scotten has nine years at Mt. Anthony District, contributing to graduation requirements and team teaching, while serving in local education leadership roles.

Oversight Could Lift Fines For Overloaded Trucks
MONTPELIER UP I A legislative oversight opened the door to tougher penalties for overloaded trucks. The House killed an amendment to raise the maximum penalty from 100 to 500 dollars but failed to adjust a related provision, leaving the law with a 100 dollar cap for most uniform traffic ticket violations while allowing a three judge panel to set overweight truck fines high as it wishes. Separately, obituaries note several local figures including Jake Levin a former Bennington post office worker and community member with ties to Brockton and the Sandler Shoe Company, and Elizabeth Bouffard Jones mother of Philip P. Young of Bennington whose funeral was held in East Hartford.
