North Adams Mayors Talks Tax Hike Over County Budget
North Adams Mayor Joseph R. Bianco warned residents of an $8 tax rate rise possibly climbing another dollar as the city faces county budget requirements approved by the Massachusetts legislature. He cautioned a major tax increase seems likely given the new figures. In nearby Pittsfield, a 19 year old, Harry Sykes, was charged with burglary after police caught him under a car near Paris Cinema. He faced counts of breaking and entering, attempting to break into a safe, larceny under $100, possession of burglary tools, and possession of drugs including marijuana and Valium. A small cash stash was found outside the theater.
