U.S. and Soviet Union reach pact on peaceful nuclear tests

UPI reports that the United States and the Soviet Union agreed on the Control of nuclear explosions for peaceful purposes including on site inspections for the first time. Ambassador Walter J. Stoessel Jr announced the accord after 93 sessions over 18 months, with initialling expected in about 10 days and a signing ceremony later followed by Senate ratification. President Ford in San Antonio confirmed the agreement and noted far reaching steps for on site inspection to ensure civilian use.

Hohman pleads not guilty in Shaftsbury murder case

George Hohman, 35, of Bennington, pleaded pro forma not guilty in Bennington District Court to the strangulation death of Mary Ann Peterson, 15, then was freed on $30,000 surety bond posted by his parents and wife. A formal arraignment is tentatively set for April 13 in Bennington Superior Court.

Final steps begin to end Karen Quinlan life

Security was tightened at St. Clare's Hospital in Denville New Jersey as Karen Ann Quinlan's family prepared to turn off her sustaining respirator.
