Pope to modify Catholic Church rules on mixed marriages
Vatican sources say Pope Paul VI will issue a motu proprio changing canon law on marriages between Roman Catholics and non Catholic Christians. The rules will require a mutual moral guarantee to respect each other’s religion and raise children in the Catholic faith, replacing the prior pledge system. The plan also would recognize the validity of marriages performed by non Catholic clergy, though still deeming them illicit.
