Seven Railroads Back to Normal After BLFE Strike
Seven of eight railroads hit by the four day BLFE strike resumed freight and passenger service nearly normally with losses in the hundreds of millions. Grand Trunk Western faced additional union action as 60 switchmen walked off, claiming pay for idle time. the union said the strike was unauthorized. Federal court fines were issued against the BLFE and its president for halting action past the deadline, while railroads dropped a demand for a separate large fine.
