Water and fire departments merger debated by Bennington town group
Town committee debated whether to fold water services under selectmen or maintain a separate water board. They favored a separate water board due to legal deeds and customer expectations. Plans for merging municipal departments shifted away from a single fire chief to supervision by a selectmen committee. Chiefs of the three units would still keep their roles and coordinate with the selectmen on finances equipment and dispatch. The Bennington County convention of the International Order of the King's Daughters and Sons planned a gathering at the Bennington Free Library with remarks by Mrs. David Knipes and a devotional by Rev. Alfred Scott.
