Show officials praised at Benalla fair for 1950 event

The 1950 Benalla Show highlighted efficient secretarial work by Dorothy James and support from former secretary and wife Mr and Mrs Lance Neil. Arena stewards led by Clive Nason with deputy Don McMillan ensured smooth two days. Mick Betts in the red coat drew attention while judges and exhibitors impressed with junior riders and a strong display of ponies and equestrian talent headed by Royal Chester owned by E B Coles with Lois Coles riding. Mary Goathys and other riders earned top honors in multiple classes.

Ace District Riders Spark Spectacular Jumping Show

The Ace District Riders staged a very spectacular jumping event in Lie North-East with Kevin McFarlane and W Crowe winning the premier pair. Neil O'Keefe and Jack and Michael Crowe placed well as contenders. Dr Roy Hill earned eleven prizes including reserve champion, with Kinderchick lauded by judge Mr McMillan as a standout thoroughbred. Local breeders Measrn JOT Martin and T. Trewin of Devenish praised. trotting events on the second day produced notable wins, including Rainbow ridden by D. Gough of Yarramonga.

Sheep Dog Trials Highlighted by Keen Spectators

A country show featured 19 entrants with two eliminated. T. McKinnon's Flos and J. Dobson's Tess and A. Mongan's Silver placed near the top with one point separating second. The musical chairs event drew strong crowds as Peggy Hill faced Nell O’Keefe in a lively final.

Official Opening of Show Highlights Steward Roles

D McPherson and the stewards assisted the 45 official announcer to start the show. R D Bakewell and A N A Jones led the master of stewards. Society president Mr Gardner spoke briefly before Mr F A Cook M L A opened the event and noted £800 grant for improvements including cattle pens and the surrounding bank.
