Fraser Island Adventure Training Camp Appeal for Scouts

The Benalla Scouts Group seeks funds to send three senior Scouts to a Fraser Island Training Camp in January 1951. The program offers seven outdoor activities to train youth leaders for over 15 year olds with First Class Badge. Total cost £50. donations invited via press acknowledgement, to be sent to the Group Committee.

Poultry Breeder’s Success At Euroa Show

Mr. A. J. Watson of Benalla West earned multiple first and second prizes at the Benalla Show for Brown Leghorns and followed with further wins at the Euroa Show last Saturday. He took first and second prizes for Leghorn cock and hen, and a Benalla West 15 year old exhibitor won first prize for 4 magpie pigeons.

Increased Air Charges Boost Fares and Freight Rates

The Minister for Air approved a general rise in ANA fares by ten percent and freight charges by eleven percent effective from Monday. Benalla branch changes hands with Mr Bransden leaving to Mr R Dobson, a Wangaratta resident, who plans to reside in Benalla soon while operations stay otherwise unchanged.

Legacy group's grand gathering highlights regional clubs

A large Benalla Wangaratta and Melbourne area gathering showcased Legacy work. Delegates included Dr Harrison J T Martin and J Pennington among many others, led by Legatee A Balche. Speaker Sir Franley outlined Legacy's postwar growth from £200 to £200,000 and stressed family contact, education and directing boys into suitable employment as core aims. A one minute silence in darkness marked the Torch symbol.

Renewed Hope for New Weir at Violet Town

The Trust faced inflated tender bids years ago for a new weir at Violet Town. The commission now suggests higher completed costs increase the Stave grant aid and reduce the Trust share. The president and secretary will interview engineers to reopen tenders for submission to the S.R. and W.S. Commission.

Bridge Street property fails to reach reserve at auction

A Bridge Street property prepared by F L Bullock Pty Ltd failed to reach its reserve at Friday’s public auction and was passed in for private sale. Giritfin and Chillity, estate agents, handled the sale on Collins Street Melbourne with bids rising from £2000 to £4600 before the reserve was not met.

Violet Town Candidate Running Second At Hospital Nomination

Violet Town reports Mia Mansfield in second place with 16 044 votes in the cycling race while a Penny for Me session at Violet Town Hospital raised 66 pounds 17 shillings. The event included a JSR after noon update and noted staff use fees.

Chamber Presses for Urgent Rural Shooting Controls

The Chamber of Agriculture urged immediate legislative amendments to curb indiscriminate shooting in rural areas. President Mr. W Weigall noted damage to valuable stock and risk to life from irresponsible shooters while Premier Mr. McDonald and Chief Secretary Mr. Dodgshunt discussed the issue.

More Championships to Clydesdales

Victoria’s outstanding Clydesdale breeders Messrs J T Martin and T Trewin of Devwenish continue to win championship ribbons at all shows with their Clydesdale exhibits. Their many championships at the Royal and Benalla shows have been followed by further successes at Shepparton and Dookie, held yesterday, where at Shepparton they took two championships including a grand championship and a reserve for the female section.
